WHAT IS VALTREX MEDICATION USED FOR?
Valtrex is used in the treatment and suppression of genital herpes, to treat the symptoms of
shingles (herpes zoster).
WHO SHOULD NOT PURCHASE VALTREX DRUG ?
- People who are HIV positive or have received an organ transplant.
- Women who are pregnant, or breastfeeding.
HOW DO I USE VALTREX MEDICINE ?
Use valtrex medication for treatment of recurrent genital herpes:
Take 500mg tablets 2 times a day for 5 days, unless advised otherwise
by your physician. This medicine is most effective when taken as soon as possible after the first signs of herpes infection.
For suppression of chronic recurring genital herpes:
In patients with histories of 10 or more genital herpes recurrences each year:
Take 1000mg once daily, unless otherwise directed by physician.
In patients with a history of 9 or fewer recurrences yearly:
Take 500mg once a day, unless otherwise suggested by your doctor.
This medicine may be taken with, or without, meals.
WHAT ARE POSSIBLE VALTREX SIDE EFFECTS ?
Most commonly reported side effects were headache, nausea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and constipation.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- Patients with impaired kidney function may require a change in drug dosage.
If you have impaired renal function, and did not make physician aware on the consult form, please contact him before taking this medicine.
- Store this medication at room temperature, out of reach by children. Protect drug from moisture. Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after expiration date.
- Always take all your medication, even if you start to feel better before finishing.
- Contact your doctor, pharmacist or seek emergency medical attention if you start having
difficulty breathing, closing of throat, swelling of lips/throat/face, or hives.
- Take a missed dose as soon as possible, unless it is almost time for next dose.
Do not take two doses at same time.
